The chair of Public Health was organized in September, 2009. The chair includes 17 faculty members and 7 disciplines:
Microbiology, Virology and Immunology
General Hygiene
Public health
Health promotion
History of the Medicine

There are 3 doctors of medical sciences, same number of professors, 4 candidates of medical science, 2 associate professors and 5 laboratory assistants in the chair.

Teaching staff constantly ameliorate knowledge in professional field and increase level of proficiency.  Various scientific researches are carried out continuously.

Modern and innovative methods are used in educational attainment of medical students in our school


The course of “Microbiology, virology and immunology” occupies a special position in the general system of education in medicine. The department of microbiology aims to provide fundamental biological knowledge and forms medical thinking. It integrates modern microbiological knowledge into clinical thinking of future doctors. Requirements of clinical physicians to the knowledge received by students at studying of microbiology, virology and immunology, have considerably increased - they should have certain purposefulness. There was a necessity for education of new type of experts with versatile knowledge and abilities not only in microbiology, but also such adjacent areas as molecular biology, genetics.

Within the higher medical education of the discipline of “General Hygiene” in the field of preventive medicine plays an important role in development of the world-outlook of physicians working in the public health system. Taking into consideration the contemporary problems of environmental protection, the increasing infectious and non-infectious morbidity of the population, the main task is hygienic characterization of environmental quality, identification of increased risk groups and investigation of the relationship “environment – health of the population”. Acquisition of knowledge and skills regarding the assessment of environmental factors and population health is necessary for the development of measures and recommendations to promote health of the population and improve environmental health.

Program in “Epidemiology” is worked out for students of IHSM IUK in accordance with requirements of "Medical science" and its necessity for providing population with medical service at medical establishments. The provisions concerning health care of population, sanitary-epidemiological welfare of population and other governmental documents and decrees of Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, orders covering the strengthening of public education and preparation of medical specialists are taken into account in this program. The successful teaching of the "epidemiology" course is providing the initial knowledge by the departments of social studies, general-theoretical, hygienic and some clinical disciplines.

Teaching of the “Public health” course to students is conditioned by that there is a wide range of issues, which students should study. At first, there are issues of public health and social medicine, biostatistics and etc.

Public health course teach students notions and concepts of “population's health” and “public health” as a scientific and educational course. To give presentations of historical succession of formation of medical and social concepts, theories and models of medicine and health care, regularities and the studies of medical and social issues, rules of evaluation and assessment of results of activity in the sphere of public health.

The “Health promotion” course is aimed to give some basic knowledge on health promotion theories and practice, especially on methods of communication on health promotion  “Health promotion” is an implacable part of public health instruments. The health promotion plays enormous role in developing countries. Health promotion encompasses a wide variety of activities with the purpose of improving health status of individuals and communities and requires a range of expert knowledge and skills of communicating for health promotion.

The course of the History of the Medicine provides students with knowledge of the general laws of historical development of medicine since the most ancient times till now. Distinctive lines of development of healing and medicine during the various historical periods, achievements of the largest civilizations in the field of doctoring and medicine in the course of forward development of their spiritual culture, the contribution of outstanding doctors of the world which has defined destinies of a medical science and profession of a physician in history of mankind

The course of “Economics” provides students with economic knowledge. It expands the concept of public health and economics of health. The course aims to show the main principles and real problems in public health systems of developed countries. Shows interrelation of supply and demand and examine the main examples of market failures in public health.
